Computer and Mobile publishes free, step-by-step guides on building websites, Android applications and Ubuntu servers.

Who writes this

My name is Habib Baloch. I build Android apps, websites and servers, and I write down exactly how I did it — including the errors along the way, because those are usually the part that takes the longest.

I am based in Karachi, Pakistan, and I have been working with PHP, MySQL, Android Studio and Ubuntu servers for several years. Every guide on this site describes something I have actually set up and run, not something summarised from documentation.

How these guides are written

  • Each one is tested first. The commands are the commands I ran.
  • Errors are included. If something fails at a particular step, that is written down with the fix rather than left out.
  • Costs are real. Where something costs money, the actual figure is given, not "affordable".
  • The simpler option is named. If there is a cheaper or easier route than the one being taught, the guide says so — even when that means suggesting you do not need what is being explained.
  • Updated when things change. Software moves; a guide that was right two years ago may not be right today.

Why the site exists

Most technical tutorials are written for people who already know the subject. They skip the step that actually blocks you, assume you know which file to open, and never mention what anything costs.

These guides are written for the person doing it for the first time — in plain English, with every setting spelled out.

The shop

There is a shop on this site selling complete, tested source code for website and app projects.

The guides are free and complete on their own. Nothing is held back to push a sale. The shop exists for people who would rather start from a finished project than build it from scratch, and that is a different need, not a better one.

Corrections

If something on this site is wrong, out of date, or does not work on your setup, please tell me. Technical writing goes stale, and a reader who hits the problem is more use than any amount of rereading. Details are on the contact page.
