What is collected automatically
Like nearly every website, the server records standard technical information when a page is requested: IP address, browser type, the page requested, the referring page, and the time. This is used to keep the site running and to understand which guides are read.
Cookies
Advertising cookies
This site displays adverts through Google AdSense. Google and its partners use cookies to serve adverts based on your previous visits to this and other websites.
Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve adverts to you based on your visit to this site and other sites on the internet.
You can opt out of personalised advertising at any time by visiting Google Ads Settings. You can also opt out of third-party vendor cookies at aboutads.info/choices.
Third-party vendors, including Google, may show adverts here based on your past visits. Opting out does not stop you seeing adverts; it stops them being personalised.
Analytics cookies
Google Analytics is used to count visits and see which guides are useful. It records pages viewed, approximate location by country, device type and how you arrived. It is not used to identify individuals.
You can prevent this with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
Cookies this site sets itself
Only one: a session cookie, and only if you log in to the administration area. Ordinary readers are not given a session cookie.
Turning cookies off
Every browser can block or delete cookies in its settings. The guides on this site work normally with cookies disabled.
Information you give us
Contact form and email
Your name, email address and message, kept only so the conversation can be continued. Not added to any mailing list.
Shop orders
If you buy source code, the following is stored: name, email address, the product bought, the payment method chosen, and the transaction reference you supply. This is needed to verify the payment and deliver the download, and to answer questions about the order later.
Payments are not processed on this site. You pay through your own payment app or bank, and only the reference number you type in is stored here. No card or bank credentials ever reach this website.
Who else sees your data
It is not sold, rented or traded. It is shared only with services needed to run the site:
- Google AdSense — advertising
- Google Analytics — visitor statistics
- The web host — the server the site runs on
- An email provider — to send order confirmations and replies
Information may also be disclosed if legally required.
How long it is kept
- Server logs — a few weeks, then overwritten
- Contact messages — as long as the conversation is useful
- Order records — kept, so download links can be reissued and accounting records exist
- Analytics — according to Google's own retention settings
Your rights
You can ask what is held about you, ask for it to be corrected, or ask for it to be deleted. Order records may need to be kept for accounting, but anything not legally required will be removed.
Requests go to the address on the contact page and are answered within a few days.
Children
This site is not aimed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect their information. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, please get in touch and it will be deleted.
Other websites
Guides link to other sites — documentation, software downloads, tools. Once you follow a link, that site's privacy policy applies, not this one.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. Significant changes will be noted on the site.
